+3 1. 82% from the line and 58% from the floor. While we continue to struggle from "3" (33%) shooting the ball like that from everywhere inside the 3-point line was key today. Also speaks to the type of shots we got in the half-court and in transition. In general, this team is crazy explosive on offense, putting up another 93 today. 2. Big bounce-back games from Cash and Langford, including what was probably's Langford's best game as a Spartan. Cash scored all 13 of his points in the first half, including sparking the run that got MSU the lead. With Bridges in the locker room and Jackson fouled out, MSU ran the offense through Langford for the final 8 minutes. He created offense for himself and others, great use of the pin-down screen, was great on the screen and roll, and defended. Break-out game for Josh. 3. This is the kind of game where depth shows. Jackson with a tremendous struggle. Schilling is not playing well on either end. Goins hurt. Carter was so-so. McQuaid struggling on offense. Insert what is probably the 11th man, Xavier Tillman. Gives the team a huge lift with the back to back blocks at the end of the first half, started the second, and played well throughout. -3 1. Perimeter shooting. 33% from "3" and a lot of really open looks. 2. Half-court defense. Izzo sounded worried about it in the postgame and he should be. Sure, Stonybrook posed a different type of challenge. Yes, some of those 3's where they started 6/8 were contested. But this team has the "we are going to outscore you" vibe going and that doesn't win championships. 3. Gave up 13/26 shooting from "3." Making 3's vs. giving up 3's has been a negative pattern for this team early. MISC * So many more things you can see at a game in person than on TV #CaptainObvious * Really impressed with how the bigs for Stonybrook ball-screen and pop or slip ball screens. It's an odd set-up to play against a team that uses ball screens with really no intent on creating space for their guards. The emphasis is to get you to help so they can hit slips and pops. It took awhile for MSU to get used to. * It can be really hard to watch Schilling with the ball. Despite what you might hear from others on here, it's been very minimal progress on the offensive end during his time at MSU. While he plays ball screens extremely well, he has been just OK in other aspects defensively. Tillman is likely gaining ground on Schilling and Tillman. * Izzo has done a great job, IMO, of managing the minutes between Tum and Cash. Winston plays a lot, they play some together, and Tum some alone. I think Coach has managed that very well. * As expected, like against Ferris, place gets dead quiet when Bridges goes down. Glad it doesn't seem too serious. * Playing against a Stonybrook team who has 4's and 5's that can really shoot 3 and spread you out, is great practice for a Notre Dame. Like Izzo said in the post-game, reminds him of MTSU.
