MSU vs. Ferris / Offensive film analysis

Every once in awhile this year, I'd like to provide some type of in-depth analysis on this board. I might break it down by offensive possession, defense, analyze shot chart and how we got those shots, individual player, break down, etc. If you have something specific in mind, let me know. I have watched the Ferris film a few times and broke down offensive shots taken. I broke down every shot taken by: * Type of possession - Transition, Set play, BLOB/SLOB, Secondary (secondary break, broken play, improv) * Type of action on the play * Number of passes * Result * Graded each shot on it's quality 5 = Great / 4 = Good / 3 = Decent / 2 = Not Good / 1 = Terrible I. Shot Grades (some FT's mixed in) 5 Grade = 23 shots --- made 79% of these 4 Grade = 24 shots --- made 53% 3 Grade = 21 shots --- made 14% 2 Grade = 11 shots --- made 9% 1 Grade = 7 shots --- made 0% II. Possessions 1) Vs. Zone = 9 - Scored on 2/9 possessions with base zone offense ("MSU X") / 22% - 4/9 possessions got a shot with a quality score of "4 or "5" 2) Ran zone sets = 3 - Scored on 1/3 or 33% of zone set possessions - All three possessions led to a shot quality of "5" 3) Transition = 26 - Scored on 8/26 or 31% of those possessions - 15/26 were a "4" or "5" shot quality. 0 for 11 in shots that were 0-3 4) BLOB/SLOB = 11 - Scored on 5/11 or 45% of these possessions - 4/11 were shot quality "4" or "5" 5) Sets = 22 - Scored on 10/22 or 45% of set possessions - 9/22 were a "4" or "5" shot quality 6) Secondary = 13 - Scored on 7/13 or 54% - 9/11 were a "4" or "5" III. Analysis * Best score possession % was out of "secondary" / Worst was vs. "zone" * 0/11 in transition of shots that were of quality 0-3 * 18/22 possessions where we ran a set play, we got a shot quality of "3" or better * JJ's ability to know all of these sets and then set great screens speaks to his BBall IQ * 3 most effective set plays 1) MSU Post curl 2) Strong side post iso 3) Hand-off, back screen, ball screen (added 2 new wrinkles late including JJ turn + pin down for Cash) * 3 least effective stats 1) 1-4 High UCLA look and variations 2) Scissors 3) Weak-side pin downs out of 1-4 high and elbow catch
